START Study Activities

Participation in the START study includes the following activities:

  • Wearing an Oura ring
  • Completing short online surveys about your health at the beginning and end of the 8-month study period (15 minutes each)
  • Tracking your menstrual cycle for 1-3 cycles during the study period

During the tracking cycle, participants will

  • Come into the UCSF Center for Reproductive Health for ultrasounds around the time of ovulation (20 minutes each, for up to 5 visits)
  • Use ovulation predictor kits to test the urine at home for signs of ovulation
  • Complete quick 4-question daily surveys (1 minute each)

Using a combination of data provided by the ring, ultrasounds and urine test kits, the study team hopes to develop new easy-to-use tools for predicting ovulation and the fertile window, which may empower women trying to get pregnant or prevent a pregnancy.
